Here at Swiss Valley Furniture we believe a high-quality wood furniture piece is meant to last for generations—and with proper care, it can! While the thought of caring for your furniture may sound like it requires a lot of work, most of the things you need to do to keep your handcrafted nightstands and wooden chairs in good shape are relatively simple. Here are three basic tips to help you care for your wood furniture.
First, try to keep your furniture away from heat sources or direct sunlight. When exposed to too much heat (such as what is produced by a wood stove or radiator), wood furniture is likely to dry out. This could eventually cause the wood to split.
Another important tip is to maintain consistent humidity levels in your home. Wood furniture should generally be kept in rooms with a humidity level between 35 and 45 percent. This helps prevent the wood from expanding, shrinking, or cracking. Most homes require either a humidifier or dehumidifier to maintain these humidity levels.
Finally, be cautious about what objects you allow to come into direct contact with your wood surfaces. Coffee mugs and other hot objects, moist ink (such as from a newspaper), and even cleaners containing ammonia, wax, or bleach could damage the finish of your wood furniture.
Following these simple tips will keep your wood furniture pieces in top shape so they can last for generations!
